Each Chris Caine Survival Tool starts out being laser cut from steel that is specified by us so that we are certain it will perform the duty it has been designed for. The heat treatment of the steel also plays a crucial part in our manufacturing process to deliver a blade that will not easily break, but will hold a keen edge. The blade is made from 5mm, 75 Carbon Steel and is hardened to 52-54 Rockwell. It has a full tang and the blade has a shallow convex grind which allows for a more durable edge, ease of sharpening and protects the cutting edge when using the survival tool for heavy work. Yet at just over 750g, it's light enough to be worn on your belt.

When chopping with this tool the fingers are kept well away from the material being hit thanks to the deep curve in the cutting edge. The back of the blade has a rounded off section so when hitting this tool with another cutting of wood there is less likelihood of damaging anything. The handle has been designed with three main grips, meaning that power and control can be altered depending on the job in hand. Further back along the blade the spine has been left with a crisp square edge for scraping wood in order to obtain a very fine fibrous layer that will easily take a spark for starting a fire.
